Should I use the upper tether on my RSTV?

I tend to fall more along with Swedish thinking, that once a child is atleast 4/40 and mature enough to sit in a booster that it's safer than a harnessed seat due to the potential head loads. That being said, I have a RSTV we're going to use for travel in a few days. Ds1 is 5, 41 or 42ish lbs. We're renting, so it'll be a new car with lap/shoulder belt and he'll be in the middle. Should I use the upper tether or not? He'll be between a rfing SS1 and rfing CA.

For an RSTV I absolutely would if it's available, regardless of the age/size of the child.

The top tether will provide a significant amount of protection in a side impact accident, which becomes even more important in a harness that has no seat shell to provide passive protection.

I do if possible. It also makes it easier to leave the vest in the car and load/unload the child into it. :) The tether may be used for any child under 60 lbs. where there is a tether anchor. (Above 60 lbs. a special tether may be ordered, which tethers to 2 anchors, but you don't need that. Obviously. :) That info was more for lurkers/future searchers. :) )
