Car seat conundrum

I need some ideas here.

DS went to stay the night w/ Nana today. He climbed up in her car & into his seat & I was surprised he still fit (he's had a recent growth spurt). But sadly, not much room left at all. The seat Nana has is my FPSVD & he has maybe 1/2-1/4" (closer to the 1/4") of room left. We need a new seat very very soon. It will be for use between her car & DH's car.

The problem, I can't afford another GN. The Maestro only goes to 50lbs harnessed right? He fluctuates between 46-48lbs (although, admittedly, I haven't weighed him in a while). I'll weigh him tomorrow when he gets home. What is the harness height on the Maestro? Would it be worth it?

I've thought about the Apex 65 but if measurements I've found online are correct, it & the FPSVD have the same top slot height, so that is out.

Any other HWH seats I'm missing out there that are $100 or less? Part of me wants to start booster training him, but he's a wiggle worm & a half & my mom sucks at the car seat rules.

The only seats under 100.00 that harness beyond 40 lbs are the Maestro, Apex (on sale) or Generations.

The Generations top harness position is shorter than the FPSVD.

If you want to keep it under 100 dollars, I'd get the Maestro, use the harness to the weight limit and then start booster training.

Alternatively, you could spend 130 or so get a Britax Parkway SG and start booster training now. That crotch strap is a good option for new booster riders.

Old-style RSTV can be had for less than $100 shipped.

Gen65 but I think its slots are no higher than the Apex.
