wait. you mean my radian doesn't convert to a booster?

oy. not only is the info outdated or less than best practice, some of it is flat out wrong.

Some parents who prefer convertible car seats, which face backwards until your peanut is big enough, are fans of the Britax Roundabout. "I had an infant carrier ... until about 15 months," says Heather G of California, mother to a 19 month old daughter. "Then I bought a convertible hoping to keep her rear-facing for longer. But, her legs got all squished up, so now she is forward-facing."

Toddlers and Preschoolers: Convertible seats and forward-facing seats with five-point harness Convertible car seats and forward-facing seats typically fit children up to 40 lbs, but some higher priced models work until your little munchkin is 60-100 lbs like the Britax Boulevard.

However, some forward-facing seats with the five-point harness can also eventually convert to use with the shoulder belt, such as the Sunshine Kids Radian65, so you won't have to buy a booster.

School-aged children: Booster seats until about 4'9" tall and about 8-12 years of age

Once your sprout outgrows the forward-facing car seat, they'll make their way into a booster seat, such as the Cosco High Rise Booster. For those little passengers who are big enough for the adult seat belt to fit them correctly, look for boosters that offer a weight minimum as low as 33 lbs. like the Combi Dakota Booster. You'll know that your youngster is ready to jump from the car seat to the booster when:

His shoulders are above the top harness slot

His ears reach the top of the seat back

These companies really need to be careful what they publish. How about saying that the American Academy of Pediatrics actually reccomends rear facing until the age of 2!

you'd think a company like huggies could find out what the aap ACTUALLY says instead of just making stuff up or using what they said 5 years ago.

The AAP does not recommend rear facing to the age of 2 (although they did send out an internal memo discussing that last year.)

The recommendation of the AAP is to

1. Remain in a rear facing seat to a bare minimum of 1 year and 20 pounds.

2. CONTINUE to rear face as long as the child fits within the height and weight restrictions.

3. Develop child restraints that can keep children rear facing to 4 years.

This recommendation was developed in 2002 when the existence of seats that could keep children rear facing beyond the first birthday was minimal.

Now that seats have improved and there are multiple options to keep kids rear facing for three-four years, the AAP is discussing revamping its recommendations, but the above recommendation is still the official one.

Anyone find it odd:

That they mention specific brands but only ONE brand/seat for each type of seat?

That the writing style is so very casual? I'll admit to using "kiddo," "Squirt," etc. but not that many different terms in the same document. . .

It sounds like a mash up of "reviews" from a shopping site and from people not well versed in CPS ("I turned my baby ff because her legs were squished.") rather than an informational article or reference page.

It would have been easier (and better) to link readers to NHTSA, AAP, SafeKids, - even Graco.

Weird. Just weird.
