Hey guys i have 2 little girls one is 2 months old and the other is about a year and 2 months. I have been looking around and found a nice 98 honda accord 4 door with only 90 thousand miles. Im thinking of getting it but the only thing that is stopping me is that i cannot find the latches for the car seats. Does anyone know if they are under the seat or if they even have any? my 1 year old uses the big car seat that faces forward and i think that one requires 3 latches 1 on top and the other 2 on bottom. the other carseat for my 2 month old only requires 2 latches on each side so im trying to figure out where the heck those suckers are on that car. Any help would be appreciated thanks in advance!

Honda Accords of that year do not have LATCH or top tether anchors. My '99 Accord didn't have it, either, so I'm not sure when it became standard. Being that your little ones will be in car seats for a while, I would try and find a model that does have it -- makes for a much easier and safer installation, in my opinion! ;)

Lower anchors may be easier in some cars, but they are not safer and it's very misleading to say they are.

A top tether is always preferred and a 1998 Accord can be retrofitted -- my LATCH manual seems to have gone for a walk  so when it comes home I'll look up the part number for you if someone else hasn't beaten me to it.

Top tether anchors (the "T" in the LATCH acronym which stands for Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) can be retrofitted in pre-factory equipped Honda models using Honda tether anchor retrofit part number 82410-SE3-C01. The Honda top tether anchor retrofit part is available for approx. $15 per part at Honda dealerships, or slightly less online if you google the part number for online Honda part vendors. Top tethering is important and encouraged for any forward facing harnessed carseat installation because it helps to reduce head excursion, the amount the child's head moves forward/outside of the carseat's protective shell during a crash.

Lower LATCH anchors became standard factory equipment on the Accord for the 2001 model year, and top tether anchors were standard equipment starting with the Accord's 2000 model year. Lower LATCH anchors (the two sets of metal bars in the vehicle seat crease's passenger and driver side positions in the 2001 and newer Accords) cannot be retrofitted in pre-factory equipped Hondas, and this is true of most vehicle manufacturers. Lower LATCH anchors are not mandatory to install a carseat, though, as the vehicle seatbelt can be used to install. :) The key is to achieve a proper installation with less than 1" of movement at the carseat's belt path using an allowable installation method.
