Question WWYD?

I still lurk every now and then and rarely post! A lot has happened in my life (if any of you remember me!). I am getting married this summer--and hopefully in the next 3-4 years will have my own kids to put in carseats! Now onto my real reason for posting!

My youngest niece just turned 3 last week and has been riding rf in my RN (older--33lb rf limit). I just weighed her last week and she's right at 33lbs. Do I turn her ff (love the Radian!) or move her into the Safety 1st Uptown I already have for 2 more pounds (like it, but dislike the continuous harness and easy to lose buckles)? She is still rf in a newer Marathon in her parents car. I am the biggest proponent for rf as long as possible. If she were my own kid I probably would have sold the Marathon and gotten a new Radian that goes to 45lbs, but she's the last kid and no one wanted to invest a lot more money into a new seat. Decisions, decisions. Maybe I'll suck it up and use the Uptown for a few pounds (I'll miss the rf tether of the radian).

Thanks for any replies!

I personally would use the Uptown for the extra pounds with a just-turned 3 year old. I know others would be comfortable forward-facing at that age, but I'd prefer to get some extra rear-facing time in at that age. :)

I would be comfortable forward facing at that age. I am probably in the minority though.

This is what I would do.

Just an FYI - some of the radians that are stickered to 33 lbs actually have a 35 lb limit. If you post with your DOM, we can answer that for you.

Okay, I think I'll suck it up and put the Uptown in this weekend. I know for sure my Radian is only a 33lb one. I remember when they did the switch and it was quite a while after I had purchased mine. I think mine was manufactured in January 2007. I know I purchased it in March 2007.

If you really want to keep her RF for a little longer, then I would switch to the Uptown.

However I would be fine with putting her FF at 3 years old & over 30lbs. My goal for my son was 3 years old & at least 30lbs. He has reached that. I turned him FF for good & put him in a Nautilus about a month ago. I am perfectly fine with that choice. I know that his seat is properly installed, properly used, top tethered & he fits it well.

BTW: Congrats on getting married soon!
