My son (21 mos) rides in a Britax Decathlon in my mom;s car and the other day he figured out how to unbuckle the crotch buckle.

My question is...is it OK to re-thread the buckle with it facing backwards to keep him from undoing it?

Yeah...I figured since it wasn't crash tested that way that it was possibly an "unknown." But...I just worry about him unbuckling it and no-one noticing since he is RF'cing and you can't see what he is doing!

Any ideas:confused:

If you put a sock over it (with toe cut out) would he still know the button was there and try to undo it? I seem to recall someone mentioning putting a piece of velcro (the scratchy side) on a button because they wouldn't want to touch it. Depends on the kiddo, I think.

I actually think the best thing you can do is treat it as an offense along the same lines as sticking his finger in a socket - in other words, very firm, very loud "no" and drive the message home over and over that he is not to touch it. Tell him it is dangerous and make sure he knows he is doing something bad if he undoes it. If you repeat these things often enough kids eventually learn that they absolutely can't touch that button or have to keep the chest clip where it belongs, or can't wear their big coat in the car, etc., etc. The latter two are handy for when someone else is putting them in the car. ;)
