Question Uncharted territory- the booster!

We are going to be traveling to Australia in Oct or Nov and DS will be turning 8 :)eek:) in August. He has never been in a booster as he just does not sit still enough yet. When we go to Australia we will be using the train available for travel around the city, but when we drive around I need to figure out what in the world I am going to bring! I think he should be mature enough to sit in a booster by then with my help. I will be sitting next to him so I can be sure he is sitting correctly 100% of them time. Any ideas? Right now he is 4 ft tall or 4'1 and right around 50lbs.

Best bets for traveling? We also plan on going to Japan in 2011 (and more travel) so I need something that will work long term.
Thanks!

Have you looked into a Ride Safer Travel Vest? It's a wearable five point harness, and it's small enough to just put in your suitcase.

Another option would be the Compass folding booster, the B530 or whatever model number is out now.

Or you could get a Graco Turbobooster, put the back in your luggage and carry the base on board the plane and put it in the overhead bin.

I thought those stats seemed short.. my son is 20 months and 3 ft tall!

Piper is 7.5 years old and several inches off of 4' yet. I don't think she'll be 4' at her eight year appointment. She's around the 25% for height. So short, yes. Unbelievably short? No. Nor will she be 50 pounds at her appointment. *Maybe* 46 or 47.

I guess Jonah is just a tall kid lol.. he's in the 90% for height.. jeeze.. if he keeps that up he's going to be really tall at 7-8.. wow.. that's a crazy thought!

FWIW, ds was 39 inches at 2 and 42 1/2 inches at 4, growth really does slow down. My 6 year old is pretty average height and is 46 inches.

Anyway, back to the orginal topic, I think the RSTV would be great in this situation. I am considering buying one or 2 for when we travel but so far don't have trip planned where we would need one. :)

If you're worried about squirming, I definitely recommend the RSTV. Plus it's lighter and smaller to haul through the airport.

I will look into the vest, thanks so much for the input. He may be mature enough for a booster by then too.

My son was 90% too.;)

I'm sorry to be yet another to say this, but I really thought he was like 6 :shrug-shoulders: Another vote for the RSTV, so easy to travel with.

I can't believe Rachel's going to be 7 in less then 3 months, but 8 is one of those ages that freak you out.

omg... 8 totally hits you... I agree... something about age 2, 4, 6, and 8... I get better behavior, but that just adds to the feeling that you are ending a stage in their lives.

SIGH... 10 is just as bad.

but on topic... I'd get the ride safer travel vest... easy and portable.
