I have a friend that is trying to figure out if it is safe to put an infant seat in the center seat of a toyota sienna when the seat is pushed into the foward position. Does anyone know.

In what way would it be unsafe? Does she feel it's breaking one of the rules put forth in either manual (vehicle or car seat?) If so, what?

As long as it is properly installed (less than one inch of movement side to side or front to back at the belt path) according to instructions, fits properly (the seat needs to not be pushing against the front seats so as to lift the car seat off the vehicle seat or anything) and doesn't break any of the car's rules for installing in that position, it should be fine. That's what that function was designed for, isn't it?

It is perfectly fine, as long as it doesn't touch the front seats. And, FYI, if it is an 8 passenger she is talking about, the center seat rear most up and center position, is the same as the forward most rear position, iykwim.
Here is a pic of an infant seat installed forward of the other 2 seats, if it helps:)
