MyRide vs. Maestro

Does anyone know which has taller top slots?

How do they compare to the MA slots?

How do the widths compare?

I was leaning toward the Maestro for tall top slots and >40 limit, but the MR being similarly priced at BBB has me wondering.

This is for an almost 5 yo, 43 lbs in what is essentially a lapbelt only position between two SBO riders. Cost is an issue and said child is at the top slots of a MA.

Sorry if this is somewhere already - my search didn't find it and I have a horrid head cold.

I don't think the slots on the my ride are any higher than the MA. If the Maestro has taller slots than go for it.

The Maestro is narrower than the other seats and has 18" top slots.

The My Ride and Marathon are over 19" wide and have top slots in the 16" range.

That's a good deal on the My Ride, though! So you could get both seats for the price of a regular My Ride....? LOL

The MyRide has similar slots as the MA. In the 16-17" range.

The Maestro is easily 18" with perhaps a smidge more for tallest slots.

It only goes to 50lbs

In this situation, I'd buy the Maestro OR if the vehicle in question has head support - the Apex 65 (it also has 18" torso but goes to 65lbs harnessed).

I hadn't really considered the Apex.... hmmm.. It is wider, but the 65 lb limit is good. It does have head support (and TT), so that is possible. I wonder what my BigLots has... I know I saw one there a couple months ago.

The situation is, hopefully, somewhat temporary. They are trying to make it another 9-18 months to save for the next vehicle (which should have l/s + head restraints in all positions). I'm pretty sure the DC will go into a booster at that point.

The Maestro is cheaper, unless of course you can get one at your Big Lots (and use the 20% coupon).

I'd be curious to see which seat makes a better booster for him - with belt fit, that could make a big difference and possibly spread the dollar further!

Meh, you have skinny kids, the 17" top slots on the Marathon/My Ride/Apex will never last them to age 9 (when they'll hit 65 pounds). The 18" of the Maestro is likely to get them to 7-8 and 50 :)

Good point on the booster fit. I think I'd guess the Maestro as more likely to be a better booster fit, but hard to say without knowing what vehicle they will end up with. Hmmmm... more mulling.

Ahhh... but not my kid! ;) Probably right though... the taller top slots are what I need.

How much recline does the child like? Here's a pic of the My Ride FF in my Focus, and I had to really work to get it *this* upright.

Yes, there's actually a child in that seat. :p DS still fit (barely) by height/weight but said he would never want to use that seat FF instead of his other harnessed seats.. (Granted, he was 8 in this picture, and a younger kid might like it better.)

The booster fit on the Maestro is good, but not tall. You'd need another booster later.

Yes, that is an issue, but they do have some taller boosters already being used by older kids. This DC is the youngest of several kids, which is why they are not thrilled with buying yet another harnessed seat, but could probably be convinced of the value of one more booster after this seat. I also have a feeling that once they have all l/s belts, the DC will be boostered, so the Maestro may be converted to booster mode (or swapped with one of my boosters) before the harness is maxed out in height.

I think I might order and try a Maestro - Sears has free ship to store and I could return there if it wouldn't work for some reason.

The MA isn't super upright in the vehicle right now, but wow that is reclined. I did install one at a check and remembered it being reclined, but not quite that much. I can see why your DS wouldn't want that.
