I have a friend whose daughter is 115lbs and out of a booster because hers only went to 100lbs. She just turned 8. Is there a booster that goes to a higher weight?

Sure, the Britax Frontier, Britax Parkway and the Sunshine Kids' Monterey all have a weight 'limit' of 120. They're all high backs. Of the three, the MOnterey and the Frontier are better choices for large children.

Seatbelt fit is much more important than the largely arbitrary 'weight limit' of a booster. The seatbelt is restraining the child, not the booster. It doesn't matter how much the child weighs.

The Harmony is a backless booster with a 110 pound limit, and I'd be perfectly comfortable using it for a heavy child who still needed a booster

Britax tried to do away with a booster weight limit... they stamped one on the newer frontier because people just didn't know what to do... lol.

Really, they all test with the same model... then it's up to the company to pick a limit.

I'd use the booster if it fits, regardless of the weight limit... it's for positioning the belt, it's not actually restraining the child like a harnessed seat does.

How tall is this kiddo? (My own son is 115lbs, but he's almost 5'3" at 10yrs old)

i think she is about 54" tall, but 115lbs. the mom had mentioned that she had to stop due to hitting the limits on the seat so I thought i would ask here if she had any options. thanks! :)

If the seatbelt does not fit properly, I would have no hesitation using a backless booster (an appropriate choice for an 8yo if there is adequate head/neck support from the vehicle seat) above the weight limit if necessary. The Harmony booster (at BRU, not the Harmony booster at WalMart) and the Cosco Ambassador/Highrise tend to fit wider children well.
