Child is 41lbs and 26 months old.

From mom's email:

After studying your very helpful info, it looks like the two most affordable options for us are the Evenflo Generations 65 ($99 TRU online price), and the Safety 1st Apex 65 ($130 TRU online price). I won't purchase anything that has less than a 65lb limit, as I need to be sure it will last him until he is ready for a booster. And while I saw that the Apex 65 requires vehicle headrests in booster mode, that probably isn't an issue as we can save one of our current seats to use as a booster in our van (our secondary vehicle) later on.

My only concern about the apex 65 and generations 65 models was when I looked at their reviews, I saw posts from a couple of parents who complained that the harness straps of both of those models were not long enough for really large but pre-booster age kids. Is that something you have heard anything about? "Joe" is average height for his age, but in addition to being heavy for his age has fairly wide shoulders. But I have not had any trouble fitting him into the harnesses of either of our 40lb limit car seats.

I wish wish wish I could find a Frontier under $184 (the latest sale)... this would be PERFECT for him. Please help me answering her question regarding harness webbing length and provide any extra info you can so I can give her the best recommendation.

Her current seats, I believe are Eddie Bauer and an Omega series... I will send her the booster fit info regarding those and mention that a dedicated booster will more likely provide a better fit and can be obtained for less $$.

I bet the parents who say it isn't long enough are using big puffy coats. My friend just took her 9 year old out of an apex and she never mentioned anything about the harness not being long enough.

I don't know about harness webbing length, but what about a nautilus on sale. I'm seeing them online for about $144. That's only $14 more than the apex and I would say about a bazillion times better seat, IMO. It has high top slots and the 65 pound weight she wants. It will last her son a good, long while.

Oh, and seriously, by looking at him - I thought he was at least 50lbs. He is super super solid. Doesn't look obese but does look huge.

The Apex needs vehicle head support in harness mode or in booster mode, not just in booster mode.

Any other suggestion come to mind?

I'm willing to lend her my Maestro until she can fund the best seat... however cost really is an issue.

I've asked her to measure torso height.. I'm afraid the Evenfol Gen 65 might be too short fairly quickly?
