Harness question in light of Vantage seat thread

So I had to go out and check my own seats... even though they are not Dorel seats. I only tested my Frontier which passed just fine... but after I finished I worried that I had tugged too hard. I just grabbed the harness and gave it a few medium strength tugs. Please tell me I'm being ridiculous and I couldn't hurt the seat myself.
