I know in the manual it states that it has to be used until 15 pounds....

Anyone been able to get Combi to say different? I really like this seat - but not with all the padding.

I'm so bummed - DD looks so cute in it without the padding! :p

I suspect the reasoning for the 15 pound requirement is two fold.

1) to make sure baby's shoulder are at or above the bottom slots

and

2) the insert creates the 45 degree angle when the seat is installed with the line level to the ground. If you install the seat with the line level to the ground, but don't use the insert, the baby will not be at a 45 degree angle.

I think the Combi may see the 15 pounds as being a good indication of when baby may no longer needs a 45 degree angle.

Just a guess....

I was on the phone with Combi customer service when I read this so I asked and the answer is, yes, you must use the padding until 15 pounds. He didn't know why though.

I'm with you in that I dislike the padding. I am sure I would have loved it when dd was a newborn, but she is 6 months old now and it would be nice to take it out. She is hovering at 14 pounds 1 oz though so hopefully it will be out in the next month or so. The good news is that is it isn't hot here and wont be for a few more months.

Thank you so much!

I'm so bummed. It's such a cute seat and would save us a ton of room in our van. I just don't like how much it pushes her bum forward.

Wish it was an age instead of weight.

Hi Kimberly!

It's good to hear from you.

Yes, the insert can be removed before 15 pounds as long as the harnesses fit correctly: harness slot is at or below shoulders and harness straps fit snug.

Thank-you! I will be removing the insert today. I wonder why the CS person said you couldn't? Oh well, I guess it is another case of the CS rep. not really knowing. Although, he was very friendly and answered the phone on the first ring.
