Not liking Sofi in GN

So, I have J's GN sitting in my living room. I finally convinced Sofi to buckle into it. Her shoulder is dead even with the bottom slots, so it's currently set on the 2nd from bottom. If it was in the car, I'm guessing that would put her a tad over the bottom slots. Anyway, I don't like how the headrest pushes her head forward. It was never a problem with J, or even with A when she rode in it. Is it because she's so small? We didn't get the GN until J was 5.

Sofi won't be riding in it anytime soon, as she's only 3 and 29-31 pounds (she fluctuates). Is this really something that would change in 9 months? Does anyone else see this with their small kiddos? I don't think the BV headrest does it, but maybe because she's RF?

And I'm sure it's not a safety problem, just purely aesthetics. You can't see it in the pics....but here are pics anyway ;)

I didn't noticed DS's head being pushed forward when he started riding in the Nautilus but he was a tall 4 year old at the time. I believe he started at the 3rd or 4th slot. He is now on the 5th slot with some growing room.

The GN is more reclined when installed, which sort of helps with the head pushing forward issue (besides, the kids don't seem to mind!)

It was like that for Lucy too. Now that her shoulders are nearing being even with second slots - it isn't like that anymore plus... it did get better when I reclined it too.

Lucy is 4y2m, 38.75" and 33lbs

For us, it always looks worse when the seat isn't installed. The GN goes in relatively reclined on our captain's chairs of the van which negates the head-pushed-forward issue that I can see if the kids sit in it on the floor.

The Nautilus only has 4 harness slots. ;)

My DS started riding in has Nautilus at 2.5 (he was 33# and riding in a 33# rfing limit MA at the time.) I don't remember it bothering him at all. Do you have it reclined? I think it also depends on the slope of your vehicle seats as well.

I have no advice I just thought it was funny that Elizabeth has those same PJs and wore then tonight! lol

that is normal... as to how it looks... when the child first goes up a set of slots.

I think she fits great... though obviously she should rearface as long as she still can.

LOL. Too funny. I actually bought them from swap here. She has cats, ducks, and pigs

She will not FF before turning 4 in Sept. And after that, I bet she'll continue to the seats limits. She hasn't shown any interest in FF yet.

Yep...even without the recline, ,the seat installs poretty reclined...even miore so with the recline...such that usually, the kid is angled back pretty far. It helps. And while we've had some head slumpo, dd has never complained.

We were at BRU, and I decided to try her in the Frontier. It didn't seem to push her head forward. I'm really going to have to check out the Frontier 85. I like the storage and cup holder of the Nautilus, but like her look in the Frontier

This is the back. It looks like she has 4 more slots to go, is that right? I didn't actually move it up further there to see.

ETA: Sofi is not forward facing yet. At 3 years and only 30 pounds, she has quite a ways to go rear facing :) At least until she's 4 in the fall, perhaps longer.

The Frontier 85 cupholders are a lot more like the GN. Also, it has two(?) more harness height positions.

and check out this thread in the shopping forum. Posters have been preordering the FR85 for $224 through Hip Monkey.

We have both For Fiona, a frontier and a GN, we LOVE both equally.. she is skinny mini, at only 32 lbs, but she is 41 inches tall and 4 years and 3 months old.. So we decided she could ff (actually she has the means to rear face in our radian xt SL (she has 13 lbs to go and 4 inches of shell still.) we install it rear facing sometimes for her in our captains chairs, but oh gosh she hangs her feet over the side and she actually can touch the floor of the car with her toes lol..So we don't do it much anymore.

for Sofi... I think she looks fitted better in the frontier... I would wait and get the frontier 85 because my kids LOVED the cupholders of the Nauti and with the age of kids on this board (aka... not kids under 3), they're great for not just cups, but little toys... as well as to grip onto with hands while climbing into the seat.

and with no price change, why not, right? (not saying a cupholder is make or break, but when the two versions are the same price and the newer one has cupholders, why not opt for them, right?)

not every kid is going to fit so noticeably better to me in the frontier, but Sofi does... most definitely.

I saw the great deals they were getting :) And yes, I considered it  LOL, but she won't be FF until September (barring any huge weight gain). I'm just looking early, to get more used to the FF seats. With J, we simply went with the GN. I was a newbie and Mboss wanted inexpensive because we needed 3 at once (and 3 new HBB for A at the same time).

Really? Why do you think the Frontier looks better? I thought so too. I like that it doesn't push her head forward, and that the headrest is lower, around her head. But I think headrest location is because of the slot size difference with the seats.

I know the Frontier is technically wider, but on Sofi, it looked like she fit more snugly in the frontier than Nautilus... and I like a snug fit for kids (unless they are going to just burst out in terms of width in the coming years... but if Sofi stays built similarly to Ruthie in that narrow build... it's not going to happen)

Her legs also look more comfy... I know again that the frontier is technically deeper, but I think a lot of it is the shape of the seat, not just the actual measurements... and her legs look like they are more comfy.

The headrest does look better, but that's something that seems to be true for all kids... not just Sofi.

Anyway, she just looks more comfortable and like she fits the seat better in general.

I've seen others post comparison pics and some I can see such a big difference for one seat or the other... but most, not really... and for Sofi... she just looks SO much better (she shouldn't... I mean... logically, she should fit better in the Nautilus, being so slim and all) in the Frontier to me... and I'm not a frontier fan, really.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only person that thinks she looks better in the Frontier  I'm not a "Britax is best" kinda person. And I always thought to myself "Why get a Frontier when you can get a GN cheaper?" So I was trying to reason as to why I thought she looked better in the FR and I was coming up

The head being pushed slightly forward and head slump is a common issue with the Nautilus. Not every kid has the issue but some do. It seems to not happen with the Frontier.
