Somehow I managed to lock the seatbelt and then put the rear bench down (to make the trunk larger when transporting a bunch of stuff). Anyway, I can't put the seat back back up now!!!!! Anyone know how to unlock the retractable locking belt so I can rasie the back of the seat again? It is not buckled in but just won't budge. It is a 2004 Passat wagon if that makes a difference. TIA

Pretty sure it was free because the car was fairly close to new. Sometimes there's a corporate policy to replace seatbelts, especially if it's clearly defective to the point you can't use the seat. At least I'll cross my fingers there is for you! (It was a couple hundred bucks to replace a Honda belt after a mouse chewed it, though, I don't know if dh begged them to do it free, it might have worked...)

You've probably tried this, but can you stick your hand in there at all to access the button for the belt? Or maybe a plastic hanger or something to get to the buckle. Maybe I'm not picturing this right...

ETA nevermind I didn't realize it wasn't buckled.
