I helped a mom choose a Nautilus today for her slim 30 something pound 4 year old, because she just felt like a booster (backless was all she'd seen) didn't look safe enough  I took it out to her car and look at the back of the seats, the 2 year old was in an AOE with a top tether, but the 4 yo's seat (she was not there) looked like an overhead model. So when I peeked a little closer, it's some ancient Century or Evenflo shield seat, with a green patterned veloury cover, like many of my ds' little friends used to have. In 1997. I said, um, I'm not sure if you know this, but that seat is expired. "Really? How can you tell???" "Well, it doesn't have a top tether, which have been required since 1999...and I recognize the cover, I have a 12 year old" "Ah, well, that's the seat I'm replacing, I got it from my mother..." "Good choice! That'll make a fun one for the playroom or something "
I'm SO relieved for that kid being in a new seat
