question about boosters

Both my kids are in harness seats so i'm not that up to date on booster usage. A friend has her son in a booster. She says she has been having issues with him keeping the shoulder portion of the belt under the armrest. She says the lap portion stays under but does the shoulder portion have to be under the arm rest.

I believe it does but, like you, I'm not all that current on the booster stage since mine is still rear facing. I am pretty sure it goes under the arm rest though

There's only one booster that I can think of where the shoulder portion of the belt did NOT go under the arm rest (britax bodygaurd... long discontinued and almost all expired). So, yes. The shoulder belt must to be under the arm rest. Is he moving the belt after he's been buckled, or just not putting it under when buckling? Is he also moving the belt behind his back or under his arm? How old is your friend's son? Is there any way she'd consider re-harnessing him? If he won't leave the belt in position, that's a pretty strong sign he's not mature enough to be in a booster :twocents:

I am not 100 percent sure here but i believe it is as he snaps himself in. He is 6, but very tall, i believe he is in an 8 slim pants. I know she would love to reharness him but really a frontier and regent are not in her budget and he is most likely too tall for alot of the other seats.

If he's an 8 in pants, any chance he could have a short torso? One of my nephews is crazy tall, but all legs. And technically, I believe the Nautilus has slightly taller top harness slots than the Frontier... any chance your friend could fit a Nauti into the budget?

But if the problem is occurring when he buckles himself in, then the easiest solution would be having mom buckle him (though I know that can be kinda a pain). Or get a new booster. One with armrests that can be raised, or an old style Parkway (no armrests).

If he's moving the belt on purpose for some reason, he either needs a harnessed seat (if he'll fit), or maybe a vest of some sort (EZ-ON or RSTV maybe?).

This is probably a dumb thought, but I hope when she's asking about the shoulder portion going under the arm rests that she's only talking about the buckle side. I have seen people putting the shoulder belt entirely under both arm rests- that would be gross misuse and if she's trying to do that it would obviously need to be corrected immediately.

That was my thought too.

yes, this was my first thought too.
I can see the shoulder belt slipping out if she's trying to make him put the wrong side under the armrest.
