It is soo fantastic! The instructors are great, and promote extended rearfacing alot! They believe in extended harnessing, but the cost of most HWH seems to put them off..

we have alot of carseats to play with! The only HWH are an OHS futura (and they say they dont like the OHS, but its a good seat to see) and a Nania Airway. (which they say you can get for $60???)

We have a Britax Hippo seat too. (special needs marathon) I cant wait to try installing that one.

Im just so excited. I cant wait to do the actual check point!

That's great!!!

I have never seen a Hippo in person. How heavy is it? Is it just like the Marathon, but without the sides?

except for the actually seat bottom it looks just like a marathon. The back is the same as a marathon. I believe its weight is pretty similar to the marathon.

On the seat bottom it doesn't have the sides, the base is kinda flat, with a small slope. It comes with some padding that can be put on the seat bottom for the child to sit on, or go behind them (all tested with the seat). It is used alot with a Spica cast, which doesnt let a child bend its hips at all, and rotates the leg outwards, so the "sides" of the base cant be there.

Overall, its a pretty cool seat, and any child that fits a marathon can use it, casts/special needs or not. However, at $600 its very expensive. The hospital is having issues bc the cheaper specialneeds spica is not being made and the ones we have are expiring. People tend to "walk" a bit with our nice Hippo seats!

Lauren,

So glad you like your class and that there are so many cool seats to play with... :D I start my class on Monday so it's nice to hear that folks are enjoying it. But after trying unsuccessfully to install our old Evenflo Triumph (no LATCH or top tether on this one), I was feeling a little incompetent today. :( Hopefully I'll learn some tricks. It's kinda cool that most of my friends are like, "Oh - will you come install my seats for me?!?" One of them said, "I would never want to take that class, but I've always wanted a friend to do it instead to help me out...".

So is your class one night a week or is it every day for a whole week?

Maria-

yes, class is great! Tho, it has made me realize I've been tethering seats wrong in my SO's truck. (now i know right? best i can do now) but, I know alot more about the actual seats than the instructors. but hey, im a carseat dork and i spend hours learning from all ya'll here!

my class is 2 days a week for 2 weeks, (t, th then m, w) and the check points are the following week. (we get to choose which time works best for us)

class is great, but we get alot of homework!

I hope you'll enjoy yours as much as I'm enjoying mine!!

Homework...? I guess if it has to do with carseats then that's fine :p Wow, are we geeks or what - LOL!

Mine is four days straight, 9-5. Trying to find folks to care for Nolan was like a Rubitz cube but it all worked out in the end.... ;)

I hope you'll enjoy yours as much as I'm enjoying mine!!

Thanks :D

Woohoo! It's so good to hear your instructors promote extended RF and extended harnessing! :D

The OHS seats in general are bad, but the OHS on the Futura is very low, and that seat passes the 28" head excursion testing without a top tether, very impressive. We love our Futura and I'd have had no trouble using the OHS version if dd could have buckled herself in it; I could have had the OHS version cheaper.

The Airway SUCKS. I'd take an OHS Futura over an Airway any day of the week. The Airway is horrible to use properly, hard to adjust the harness, hard to install without it slipping all over the place. The back separates from the base sometimes, it's just a flimsy, hard to use piece of crap, in my honest opinion.

And I thought they quit making it 2ish years ago?
