White mark on ss1 base

So I noticed there is a white mark on my ss1 base. I've hardly ever used the base, and it's never been dropped or crashed. Is this normal? Should I worry about it or not?

Where is the mark on the base? How big? I ask because I found marks on my SS1 base as well and determined they were probably from installing the base for the first time with latch. I had a local tech check it out, she took pics and sent them to her contact at Graco and the contact determined for my marks on my base it was fine and wouldn't affect the performance of the seat. I continued to use it (it's actually in my mom's car now).

TheNimpsGirl-- did you actually send them back for Graco to inspect? Or did you just call them? Just curious, as mine have them too.

The mark is a vertical line on the front of the base, off to one side. I've installed with latch and seatbelt, but I've never had to be aggressive with it at all. :shrug-shoulders:

Just to clarify- you said you have installed with latch and seatbelt- you don't mean both at the same time do you? (for lurkers- you can not use both seatbelt and latch at the same time to install a seat- must use one or the other. Neither is safer than the other, but one may give an easier install than the other for your particular vehicle and car seat.)

It sounds like stress marks to me. If you press down too hard into the base you can weaken the plastic and leave stress marks. Can you send a pic?

Duh of course I've only installed with Either seatbelt Or latch, never both. Let me go grab a pic.

There are a LOT of people who come here looking for information and advice who may not know that it's not acceptable to use both. I was asking for clarification and am trying to help with your question. Please keep it professional for the sake of all.

We didn't send the base back to Graco but the tech (who is sooo amazingly nice) took a bunch of photos and e-mailed them to her contact who is an engineer, I believe. Her opinion was that it was due to stress while putting my knee in the base and tightening the latch. Between her opinion and the opinion of a Graco engineer I felt fine using my base and it's stress marks. Here are two pictures of the stress mark on mine (to give a reference point, it is on the side of the base near the red foot).

OP: I can't tell where the stress marks are exactly. Is it on the front on the right side? Do you have a picture that is closer?

Okay these pics are closer. I just can't figure out how it would get this mark there. I haven't ever needed more than a hand to install that base.

So I just spoke with Graco about the seat and they assured me that it is discoloration of the plastic, not a stress mark. She said that it's common and it is an issue of not enough dye in the plastic. The light marks can show up right away or it can develop over time.
