Question about Radian tether

Does the Radian have the V-shaped tether like the Britax seats? The top tether anchors in my Civic are so close to where the top of the car seat sits which makes it difficult to tighten the tether strap enough. I couldn't get the Signo tether strap tight enough (to my liking), but my Frontier works great because of the V-shaped tether.

In a vehicle like this, where the anchor is so very close to the car seat, is it okay to route over the vehicle headrest? I usually remove the headrest when I put an FF seat in the Civic, but maybe leaving it on, if acceptable, would solve the problem.

I'm just doing some wishful thinking. I wish I had a newer Civic... it's a 2003, so I can't take advantage of the Radian's Super Latch feature in that vehicle anyway.

No, I'm not getting a new seat... if I had the money I would, but I don't.

I have a 2006 Civic, which also has the super-close-to-the-seatback tethers and I haven't had any issues tightening the Radian tether. :)

I don't know the answer, because I have yet to put our Radian in the Civic, but I want to agree that the tether anchors SUCK because they are so freakin close to the seat back.

Thanks... so does the Radian have the V-shaped tether (coming out from two points on the car seat, vs. one point at the center of the car seat like other brands)? I found that the V-shaped tether on the Frontier tightened up MUCH better than that of the Signo or Alpha Omega.

Ugh, what was Honda thinking putting the anchors so close?! :hitselfonhead:

hard to explain. its like Britax seats' tethers, but you know, different.

Yes it comes from two points on the back of the seat forming the V. but where the Britax seats have the pull adjuster on the one side of the tether (so the V all the way down to the hook), the radian V's down, hits the adjuster and then branches down further. I make no sense. Bare with me, heres my diagram

|= more tether strap, but just one

Perhaps a picture may have been easier.

Yeah, the Radian's tether is not a V, it's a Y. It connects at 2 points, but then the part that has the actual hook connects to a strap like a regular tether, which is connected to that V strap. Only the part right next to the Radian itself is a V shape.

Ah, okay, thank you! Hm, so if that's the case it might not tighten to my satisfaction in the Civic either. Poo. Though Patriot, I see that you don't have any problem... hm... must be better than the Signo.

(Or not poo, actually, since I can't really justify purchasing a Radian anyway).

Thanks everyone. :)

the Radian was MURDER to tighten the tether with in our chevy cobalt... stupid headrests couldn't be removed, only raised so high... and the manual insisted it had to go UNDER the headrest.

Britax tethers would have been a dream... anything else... ick... routing that thick latchplate through was icky. Had the Nautilus fit, I think that one would have been okay (the latchplate is thinner and smaller)... but tightening just isn't as easy as one would like. I think putting the anchors on the ceiling and letting you route the tether up against the headrest would have been far better (Subaru, you've been thinking better than most other car makers on that score)

You're bad! :p Who am I to talk though, you and I were both enabling Torey the other day on FB.

Thanks though, I do appreciate the offer. I tried Andrea's Radian in my van and Brie's in my Civic. Neither had the XT or SL features though. You have an XTSL right? If I happen to win the lottery or something I'll be sure to try yours. :)

I didn't like the FF seatbelt install in either of my vehicles, though with the SL I wouldn't need it in the van. However, my Civic is 2003 so I'd have to. Yuck.
