What is the best way to keep an infant warm in super cold weather without compromising safety in the car seat. I will be possibly getting a different car seat for the infant I watch and need to know a good car seat and bundling system. Thanks. I was just reading about carseat ponchos and it got me thinking.

The best way to keep them warm is to dress them in a couple of thin, but light layers. So say like a pair of socks, a cotton onesie, maybe a pair of thin cotton pants & then a fleece sleeper over the top. Then cover then with a light blanket. Then if they're still in the infant seat, use a shower cap style cover over the top. This will deffinatly keep a baby warm, exspecially if done in the house to keep the warmth in. Here is a link to the shower cap style cover.

Also know that anything that is really thick should not be put between the baby & the harness. It will compress in an accident & leave to much slack in the harness. This is why you layer in thin clothing.

I agree with what Mommy2Marcus said, just wanted to add Don't forget the hat! Hats and mittens go a long way towards keeping kiddos warm in their seats.
Also, in my sig is my 4m old in his winter get up. A shower cap style carseat cover (nothing behind him) and a warm hat. Zip up the cover and he will well protected from the cold. Sometimes I place a blanket over top of him underneath the cover if it is really cold out, it seems to help keep the warmth in.
