Question so owners of compact cars, what infant seats/convertables are you using?

We are expecting our second child in early May:) We have a 2001 Corolla and unless we get an un expected windfall my DH will be driving this car for a few more years.

DD (3/1/2, will be 4 when #2 arrives) is in a Britax Frontier and will stay in the Frontier. Prior to her Frontier she was in an Evenflo Triumph 5 (this seat will expire when #2 is 2 yrs., and 4 mos.). We know we can get plenty of use out of the T5, but I am not sure I'll want to move #2 to the Frontier at less than 3 yrs, esp. if it's a girl and skinny like DD so we are thinking we might need to get something else instead. So we are most likely going to get a replacement and would love to know what our best options are. We tried the Marathon with DD and because DH is 6'0" and we need the seat all the back (and I ride in the car a fair amount on the weekends and am 5'6") it didn't work rear facing.

We have a Graco Snugride 22 that we used with DD (back adjust cheapo model---it was a gift I didn't have the heart to return, but really wish I would have:rolleyes:) that we may still use or we might replace the seat with a Chicco Key Fit 30, Snugride 32, or Teutonia T-Tario 32 in hopes to keep #2 in an infant seat until at least a year.

So just curious what everyone has as far as infant, and convertable seats in their compact cars. I know that some of the larger seats will fit in current models like the Civic, and Corolla, but we still might have a hard time with our model as the backseat is smaller.

I'm lovin' our Coccoro in Dh's golf. I had a hard time installing it with the seatbelt but it fits very nicely once it is in. :)

Well, we have a Corolla with no infant seats-- but I see no problem in having just about any infant seat you want back there (just please don't get a Peg and then ask me to help you install it! :p )

We have 3 rear-facers in our 03 Corolla, including 2 Radians.

We had a RF Marathon in our Corolla (1994, 4 door) and it fit well. For a child with good head control (say 6-9m+) you can install the Marathon more upright than 45 degrees (while keeping it in the manual recline mode). This allows for more leg room in the front seats.

We used a comfortsport and AOE RFing in a geo metro, and the front passenger seat is usable once the baby gets out of the newborn stage. We also used those seats in a old 92 ish ford escort. do they make smaller cars, lol?

I've had a Graco Safeseat, Graco Snugride, Evenflo Embrace, Evenflo Portabout & a Dorel Designer 22 in the backseat of my 04 Civic. Also for convertibles, a Marathon, True Fit & Radian.

We have an 05 Mazda 3 5-door (the squished hatchback one) and it is the biggest car we have owned in a LONG time. We have many seats in smaller cars, including sports cars (w/ back seats of course) and a Focus 2 door hatchback.

We have had a MA RF and FF in it, a GN, and currently a Frontier.

We are skipping the infant bucket this time around and going with a TFP. TFP's seem to be made for our back seat lol, fit is perfect for both infant recline w/o head rest and about a 35* recline w/ headrest.

The safeseat/snugride 32 or 35 fit in the honda fit, honda civic coupe (02), subaru impreza wrx (06), and a toyota corolla but it was the African version. I've also put the snugride (22lb model) in the civic and fit. For some odd reason I felt like the safeseat took up less room front to back even though it fit my son for 3 times as long. I think I might have a pic of it in the African corolla behind the driver's seat.
As far as convertibles we have had a roundabout, a friend's aoe, and a radian xtsl. The radian would've worked except the fit has advanced airbags and it kept touching the front seats. The aoe took up a ton of room with the base on it, it might fit better without the base. The roundabout is super compact so it fits everywhere.

Thanks to everyone for their opinions so far!

We really like the Cocorro and if we decide to get a new seat for the Corolla that's probably our top choice. We were really bummed once we had DD that we didn't have an 03 or newer Corolla because of the extra space, but since the car had been paid off for a while before we had DD we didn't want to get a bigger car just because of the car seat issue.

We still have an usable Marathon in our garage (it was in a 5mph parking lot accident with DD in it:() so we can still try that in a more upright position to see if it works too because I honestly don't remember if we ever changed the incline on the seat until DD was about a year old. If that works then we can add the BLVD, and probably the EFTA to our list of seats that will work. (FWIW we won't buy another Marathon as DD didn't care for hers at all, and now that we have seen how great the headwings, and no rethread harness are on our Frontier I'll have a hard time getting another seat without those two!)

Thanks again:)

2002 Honda Civic:
BabyTrend infant seat outboard
TrueFit outboard or center
Graco ComfortSport outboard or center
Radian center for about a year until the seat cushions compressed and the seat became over reclined

2008 Honda Fit:
same as the Civic, except without the over reclining on the Radian and I'm not sure if I've had the TF outboard

I've also put the CA and the Radians rear-facing in my dad's 88 Corolla. They do fit in the old style too. :)

WOW! I'd love to see a photo of that. Are you talking about an 88 or a 98? Just double checking. If you are talking about an 88 I think back to my 90 Corolla and I swear that thing had a little more room in the backseat than DH's 01.

88. But I've also put a RF Radian in my SIL's 99 Corolla. I've put them in all of them, and they fit in all, lol.

They do fit BETTER in the bigger ones, but they fit.

The Complete Air fits ANYWHERE. I have to use a pool noodle to get a 30 degree recline in my car. But at 30 degrees, you can fit it in just about any car I could think of.

Your Marathon may still be usable. Did you call Britax or refer to the criteria for replacement on their website? :)

I know per Britax it is, but in California it's a law that if a child is in the seat when the car is in an accident it must be replaced. Unfortunately for everyday use I just don't want to chance esp. if our insurance company has it on record that DD was in an accident.

We used a Keyfit in the passenger side of the 98 Corolla, and IIRC, the passenger seat had to be up quite far. It looked unusable to me. I don't think anyone ever sat there after it was in.

I have a RF RN in my 02 civic, passenger's side. The front seat has to be up a little bit more than I'd like it to, but since it's so rare that someone sits there, it works for us. We also have a FF GN outboard, driver's side. There is not enough room for a 3rd passenger back there, but the remaining space holds a bag of toys enough to keep 2 kids occupied on daily drives!
