"old" seat to donate??

i have a graco snugride manufactured in 3/04. i believe that means it expires in 2 months (5 years from DOM). my daughter just stopped using it, and while i know it has very limited life left in it, it kills me to destroy it before it's truly expired.

i'm curious of other alternatives.... donating it to a FD/PD for training, or finding a needy family who could use it for the few months it has left. (of course, that alternative leaves me nervous about them using it past expiration and then me being held liable!)

any suggestions/ideas??

Any chance you're in NC? I need an infant seat for a class and I'd pay you (a little) for it. I hate the idea of buying one from Craigslist and encouraging the sale of used seats.

sorry, I'm in IL. see that would be a great use for it! if nothing else i just want to keep more plastic out of a landfill. i understand it can't be used and why (plastic failure and all that) but it kills me to add more stuff to a landfill that won't breakdown for 7 generations!!

Graco seats are good until December of the sixth year, not five. If it was five years from DOM that would have been last March, not this March.

Anyway, it's got 11.5 months left on it. I'm sure a woman's shelter or children's home would love it for one more baby.

thanks wendy! i suppose 04 +5 years would have been this past march...oops, baby brain! 11.5 months left on it is a different perspective, since that means it can make it for one more baby! i'll see about local shelters, thanks!
