Question 6 year old - car seat suggestions?

My DS (6 years old) is about 50 lbs, 47 inches. His Britax Boulevard is expiring in March 2010 (They only last 6 year, right?)
Should I by a booster seat with a back?
Or something else??? Any recommendations?
Thanks!

Has he ridden in a booster before? If not, I would get a turbobooster now and see how he does, if he does well you can either keep that or use it as backup (for when friends ride with etc) and get a different booster such as the Parkway SG or the Monterey. If he is too wiggly then you would want to look at harnessed options. Couple questions:

1. How does he fit in the seat he is in now? Is he near outgrowing it? If you could, set him against the wall cross legged and measure to his shoulder for torso height.

2. How much does he weigh? Never mind, you already posted that LOL

3. Do you have a budget? What vehicle will this seat be in?

What's the date of manufacture on that seat? I could be off, but I don't think they were manufactured that early in 2004...I don't think they came on the market until 2005, in which case it wouldn't expire before 2011.

Does he still fit in the Boulevard -- are his shoulders under the top strap slots and his ears below the top of the shell?

If he has outgrown the seat, you need to buy something before he rides in the car again, and highbacked Graco Turboboosters are widely available and inexpensive, and should provide a decent fit. If you have a little more time, you could look at the Sunshine Kids Monterey or the Britax ParkwaySG.

I think our Boulevard was manufactured in the late summer of 2004 (I want to say August?). Out of curiosity is your son more leggy than body length (torso)? My 5 year 3 month old son outgrew his Boulevard by height about a year ago...he was above the highest harness slot. He is 43 inches tall, however, he has a very long torso so that is why that happened but it surprised me to see that your son similar weight to my son and actually taller still fit in his Boulevard.

All that being said if you decide to go with a booster, I would for sure go with a high back booster but if you wanted to keep him in a 5 point harness he would probably fit a Nautilus (and it converts to a HBB and then LB) if he still fits the Boulevard. My son is just looking like he is getting close to outgrowing his Nautilus but like I mentioned he has a long torso.

If you decide to go for a booster, my son has slowly started booster training and he seems to fit well in the Turbobooster and the Parkway. He has a Jane Indy that he fits ok in and he has also ridden in his brother's Compass B500 and B540 boosters and those were ok too.

ETA :chickabiddy and maedze posted at same time as me in regards to his height and the harness...sorry for duplicate questions!

Wow, that's crazy he still fits in the BLVD! My oldest outgrew the MA (same shell) a year ago and just now has the same stats as your DS.

Personally, if he's never been in a booster before I'd get him a Frontier. If he's mature enough for a booster I'd go with the Parkway SG :)
