Seat options?

Just thinking waaay ahead here. Child is 3yrs, 30 pounds (clothed). What FF seat would you recommend? It doesn't have to be a good booster, it just has to get the child to 40 pounds AND 5-6 years old. Average torso.

ETA: said child will be rear facing for awhile yet. I know seats will change as time goes on, just wondering what you would choose of current options. Do you think a 40 pound seat would do it? Like a Cargo?

I'm in the same boat w/my almost 4y/o who is still only 30lbs. She fit well in the Cargo but personally I would go with the Nautilus :twocents: I love how well the GN did in the recent crash tests, its reinforced with steel, fits smaller kids really well and its easy to install. Really can't go wrong :)

Depends... what does the budget look like?

My all time favorite seat is the Radian. But, I bet I would be over the moon for a Young Sport if I had a child that size. The Nautilus would probably be choice #3.

But, those choices don't take budget into account.

Well, considering how much I've spend on convertibles in just the past year.... Budget is not the be all and end all. The grandparents currently have a Marathon and Boulevard in the 99 Escort (middle, lap belt), and 04 CRV (center, lap/shoulder belt, long buckle stalks on both sides of the seatbelt, forward of the bight).

I will be replacing the Britax seats with something else. I may just hand down J's Nautili. But because said child's mother has a carseat obsession.... I thought I'd look at other options ;) And BabyS may need them while Sofi's still in a harness (The 2 Nautili belong to J and BabyS' mother, not me).

I have a cargo sitting in the closet. Actually, 2... but 1 will expire Dec 2010, and Sofi won't be FF before Sept 2010. Do you think that would get her to 5/6yrs AND 40 pounds? I sat her in one with an extra gracopedic pillow under the butt, and she was even with the middle slots. If I replaced the cover with one w/o the silly pillow, she'd have another inch or so of growing room. Or maybe it'll just be her spare seat.

See, this is why I asked. To hear about seats I don't know of :) Tell me more about the young sport. I really don't know much about it. How high are the harness slots? Is it easy to install (particularly with seatbelts forward of the bight, and long buckle stalks)?

I had looked at the Young Sport--it's very nice! We ruled it out because it only harnesses to 40 lbs, but it also turns into a very well rated booster (by IIHS).

fyrfytermama (that is spelled wrong) has one. I know she 's it.
The harness height is actually very tall. That is one of the few seats children grow out of by weight before height. Sorry I have no installation experience. All I know is that the people who have one, lurve it.

I've heard some talk about the Maestro at Baby Depot, so I went to check it out. It wasn't there :( I did see the purple GN that Judy's posted before. It was sooo pretty in person :)

knowing her weight... I'd say the RYS is an option... I just don't see a child gaining 10lbs in less than 2yrs... heck, less than 3, after age 3.

in fact, I'd get the RYS... it's one of those seats I just lust at when I see it... so awesome.
