3 in row - radian, nautilus and....??

I have our 4yo in a Graco Nautilus and our one year old in a Radian XT and I am newly pregnant. We have a Ford Escape (which we have switched to recently due to the bigger/taller radian) and a Honda Civic. Even in the Escape it doesn't look like there is going to be any room for another seat!

The Nautilus is part of the problem - very wide with it's cup holders (which I love, by the way). I have been considering getting another Radian anyways but even with those two narrow seats - are there any infant seat that might be considered more on the narrow side? At the same time I, of course, want an infant seat that is safe but fitting it in the car safely is going to be priority. If we just cannot do it then we may get a bigger vehicle right before baby arrives.

I have seen pictures of 2 Radians and a baseless Chicco KeyFit in a Prius. I'm getting my 2 Radians tomorrow, so watch for my 3 across post sometime in the next few days. I'll be trying the 2 Radians and the KeyFit 30 with the base and crossing my fingers that it works since I really want to use the base.

The KeyFit is definitely narrower than the SafeSeat (same as SnugRide 35) by about 2". I've heard that the OnBoard is narrow as well, but I have not compared.

One of our vehicles is a civic and I (quite easily) fit 2 radians and a safeseat 1. Also works with 2 radians and a marathon. I have no experience with the Escape, though... but I'm pretty sure if you take the Nauti out of the equation you'll have better luck

Check out the 3 across thread!

I had a MA, a Cargo and a Keyfit squeezed into my 2005 leather Tribute, the Escape's twin. I have not been able to get a good install ff with my Radian 65s in my Tribute. Another tech and I tried and tried. I've tried myself many times since then. Each time I think it's good, later when I go back and try, it pulls way out from the seat. It baffles me. I finally gave up and and put 1 in the closet, and the other Matthew is now using in their van.

good to know :) i haven't checked out the 3 across thread much because i figured out our config on my own  can you use the Nauti as a booster in there?

I refuse to use it as a booster - I am determined to keep my kids in 5 pt harness as long as possible. This partly because I don't feel he's big enough and part of that is trusting him to sit correctly in it - and not move the shoulder belt off himself or unbuckle the whole belt. My nephews and niece do that all the time and they are a year older than my oldest. I know part of that might be discipline but sometimes kids are just kids and do things they know they are not supposed to. Anyways - I don't think using it as a booster would help at all because it's the base part (with the cup holder) that makes it so thick. I don't think that all comes off but I could be wrong - I've never tried that.

I didn't mean use it as a booster with your DS.
I was replying to Patriot re: it being used as a booster. Like if it was "easy" enough to buckle in the back of a civic.... (that's why I quoted that quote.) Purely out of curiosity - both my kids are still harnessed.

I suppose I could, but I haven't tried. :) I did have a Nautilus, Radian, and Vivo back there at one point, but it was a pain to buckle the Vivo.

This photo is only of the Nautilus and one Radian, but you can see how much room there was for another seat. This is a 2006 Civic.

Oh sorry. I was just explaining why I hadn't thought of trying that - a lot of friends and family have suggested putting him in a booster and I'm just like, "no way - it's not the solution I'm looking for". Sorry I got confused.

NP :) It's easy to confuse 'internet speech'

Just tell them that boostering in a 3 across situation isn't ideal.
I'm keeping DS harnessed as.long.as.possible and it's not because he's not mature enough to sit still (he totally is) it's because it's a PITA to buckle a booster in the back.
