Bigger kids FF in RN XTSL

I (think) I have decided to purchase the RN XTSL for DD who is 5.5yo and 35lbs. and 42inches. Will I have enough harness height to get a few years out of this seat? I saw lots of pics of kids rf in the RN but not a lot of older kids FF.

It depends on her torso height. My DS is almost 5, 43-44", 40 lbs and has probably less than a year until he's even with the top slots. You can go over the slots with the radian, but I hear it's not terribly comfortable for the child and some people wouldn't want to use the seat like that as a primary seat. So it really depends on the child and also what you are comfortable with.

The other thing about the XT is with the headwings, they will not go any higher than the top slot, so the shoulders can't really go much above the top slots for practical, shoulder-squashing reasons.

I thought about that but wasn't real sure as I've never gotten to play with one. So thanks for mentioning that issue. :)

Evan is only 40", but is still rfing in it. He's about even w/ the 2nd to top slots. AJ is 47" now I think and he's just about at the top slots.

I don't have any pics but my 8.5yo DD is 55lbs and 51" and is even with the top slots on a RN, maybe a smidge over. I think you'd get lots of time out of one.

I took some pics of my 5.5 yr old in the sample seat I was trying out (it wasn't installed in the car though). She's 42.5lbs, 44.5" tall & 16" torso height. Second pic shows the harness on the highest shoulder height setting.

Older DS is 46-47", 48lbs and almost 6 and still fits in his XT.. so I think you've got a few years before he outgrows it.

The headwings go a bit higher than the tallest slot. DD1 was above the top slots (by about 1/2" I think) in this pic but the headwings are in the right place for her.

BTW, she was 54# and 48" in this pic if I recall correctly.

Is that a Toyota Sequoia your seat is in? If so, how does the Radian fit RFing behind driver? (off to start separate thread) Thanks.

Mine is the miracle working Frod Freestar that somehow, yes, I got RF behind the driver and some how upright. But not very useful for you f you have Sequoia ;)
