Another Car Seat on the Plane Q

I have read the FAA guidelines and am still a little confused. I will be traveling alone with my DD (3) and DS (1) in Jan or Feb from Italy to the US. The plane has a 2 3 2 configuration. Will it be possible for me to have both of them in car seats in the same row?

Last time they told us that only one car seat was allowed per seat group. Is this true? It wasn't a big deal at the time because my husband was traveling with us and we just split up two and two, but that won't be an option this time.

If any of you could clarify, I would really appreciate it.

I have a decathlon, scenera, SafeSeat, and Frontier car seats and 2 travelmates and the Snugrider. I'm definitely bringing the SafeSeat because I'm giving it to my cousin for her baby that is due in July. I plan to buy a radian or coccoro while I'm in NC. Ideas/Tips?

You must not block the exit for an adult passenger. If you are travelling alone with 2 children, I would book a full middle row, and put one seat in the middle and one next to it. You sit on the other side. That way your exit is not blocked, nor is anyone else's, but you can all be in the same row.

Will you be replacing the SafeSeat with a convertible on the way back? If so, be aware that the Radian does not fit rear-facing on most airplane seats (sometimes it does in the bulkhead, but sometimes not.) The Coccoro will fit fine.

Are you sure your flight will be covered under FAA regulations? With it being an international flight, I'm not sure how they decide whose rules apply.

Of the seats you have listed, I would bring the Scenera for the 3yo if s/he fits. It's a popular choice for a travel seat because it is so lightweight.

The rules that apply are the ones of the airline that is operating your flight. (Not necessarily who you bought your ticket from, if it's a codeshare.) You should definitely find out who is operating your flight to make sure that the FAA rules will apply. Usually they will let you put two carseats next to each other if you are traveling alone (although I don't think it is technically allowed). If they won't allow you to do that the best choice available would be to put them in window seats one in front of the other.

I agree that if you decide to replace the SafeSeat with a Radian make sure the other seat you bring is a convertible so you can put your baby in that on the way back and put the three year old forward facing in the Radian, since it won't usually fit RF.

We are flying Space A (military air) on a chartered flight so we will be subject to FAA guidelines.

I'm really hoping I meet someone in the terminal who won't mind sitting next to a car seat if they won't let me sit with them in the middle.
