Vent HELP!!The MA ruined my seatblet (safety question??)

I'll try and post pics later (after I pick DD up from school).....

upon removing my MA a moth ago, I noticed it cause the seatbelt to look like it was sliced with a razor in several lines down the shoulder portion of the belt. It's not "cut", but bends in half really easily on those lines, and you can see where the threading pulls apart.

I THINK it's from where the belt went through the lock off. My SIL says it's because I install my seats too tight:rolleyes:

It's an MA from 2005, (if that gives you an idea of what kind of lock off it is)

I'm assuming this is unsafe?? The seatbelt tensile strength could be compromised, right??

In the meantime, I moved DD in to the middle (major PITA) and put a call into Honda about replacement. Anyone know how much that costs??

It might not be too bad. You will need to wait until the belt relaxes. From the info I have read about the new lockoffs (which I really preferred the origional red lockoffs:love:) sometimes it is better if you get the belt really tight, then let it loose a little, then close the lockoff. I hear that makes it so the lockoff doesn't make so many marks in the belt. Kayskids has had a lot of experience with this. I don't think I had my seat installed long enough with that lockoff to make a difference, and I made sure I let a tad bit of slack out of the belt before closing it. HTH

DH used to work in the parts and service department of a Honda dealership, he said *they* would warranty this if the vechicle was not terribly old. What year and make is your Honda? If the dealership will not warranty it, DH says you are looking at 1-2hrs of labor and anywhere from $100 to $300 for the parts. These numbers could be off as it has been a few years since DH worked in a dealership and of course he worked for a *very* nice man whom treated his customers sooo very well.

Yes, Honda will replace any seatbelt that no longer works properly, free of charge. On older vehicles, it was a lifetime warranty. They have changed this in recent years so now they only do it for something like 10 years. The change was recent enough and the warranty for a long enough period that I believe every Honda on the road right now currently is covered under warranty.
