I was looking in the rf'ing album

And noticed a lot of kids got past age 2 in the roundabout. Was there a previous model with a taller seatback, or is rf'ing to at least 2 in the RA likely?

Yeah, probably. My son is too tall to RF in it, but I don't know when he became too tall. We don't own one, but I bought one for some friends of ours a few months ago, and at that point (14-15 months probably) he was too tall for it. But he's too tall for a lot of seats RF, so don't use him as a guide! The girl I bought it for is FF, but if they wanted to turn her RF again she would have probably about two inches before she was too tall, and she's 19 months.

My daughter still rear-faces in her Roundabout. She is 2.5years old and I would assume she will rear-face for quite sometime. I don't know if that is the norm though.

My daughter is still RF in an RA as well. She has just a bit of shell over her head, but she isn't quite yet "even" with the top so I still feel that she is safe. She is a bit over 2 years old.

My petite dd rf'd until days before she turned 5. I'd say she's the height of an 'average' three year old (?). I think more kids could rf longer in RA's if the parents keep them rf until the height/weight limit. My dd would have rf'd longer if our RA went to 33 lbs rf, but it only went to 30.

What year was your RA?

My DD hit the rf height limit around 17/18 months, but she is tall and has a big head. :) I wish she would have lasted longer in it.

My RA is a 2002 and my dd was RF in it until she was 2. I moved her to a Scenera at 25 months b/c she weighs 32 pounds now. But, her head was getting pretty close to being level with the top of the shell at that point anyway.

My dd had to be turned due to height at about 20/21 mo in her FPSE and 23mo in her Advantage(similar shell to the RA..basically an RA w/ an infinitely adjustable harness similar to the Boulevard)...hmm or was it the other way around? I can't remember.

I do know she was rearfacing in both seats by 23mo because that is when I took my certification class and I was bummed that I couldn't brag that she was still rfing at almost 2yo.

She has an extremely long torso and outgrows her seats by height waaaay before weight. She was out of her FP SIV at 6mo but only was 17lbs, 15oz at her 1yr appt! She also was too tall for both of her convertibles by about 3.5yo. We moved her to a Husky and Graco Platinum CarGo at that point and then when she outgrew the harness on the CarGo she got a second Husky.

At 5.5yo, she is still in a Husky in our primary car (mine) but we had to move her into a Turbobooster in dh's car because the outboard seatbelts weren't working well w/ the Husky (she had to move from the center to make room for her little brother!).

I have a 2005 RA and DD2 outgrew it RF at about 21m (head was up to within 1" of the top of the shell). But she has a very long torso in proportion to her total height.

I had a 2001/early 2002 DOM pre-LATCH RA, and IIRC it had the lower 30 lb. RF weight limit. Long torsoed DD1 was pretty close to the rear facing height limit of "top of head even with top of shell" around 20-21 months old and 26 lbs. DH was in a crash with the unoccupied RA in his car around that time, and then we replaced the RA with a Marathon, so I can't say for certain how much longer DD1 could've rear faced in the RA. Probably not past age 2, and she would have outgrown the RA by height forward facing by about age 2.5. She could RF in the MA until she reached 33 lbs. around her 3rd birthday, and used the MA forward facing until age 4.5.

Hmmm. I guess this is just one of those things that varies by child then...

I'm thinking my plan will be to wait and see how quickly ds outgrows his snugride in length before getting a convertible for him. Hopefully by then I'll have an idea of how he's proportioned and if he'll get a good 2yrs rf'ing from it. That would be long enough to get us to having a bigger car anyways...lol.

My second son, Daniel (he is in the album) had an inch above his head at 15 months which is why I bought a marathon for my third. Some of the kids you see may be from when Britax said it was okay to go to the tip of the ears rear-facing.

fwiw, I was able to fit my DD's MA RF in my 2 door Cherokee. It required having the passenger seat very upright, but the passenger was able to be more than 12" from the dash (the minimum for safety with an airbag, although my car doesn't have one for the passenger.)

You might want to consider the Cosco Scenera/Safety 1st Uptown though. They're a little shorter than the MA, but my extremely long-torsoed DD made it to 34 lbs in her Touriva (the precurser to those.)
