Good advice from a BRU employee

I tried the keyfit in the center seat of my car with a marathon outboard today. It did not fit. The employee told me that the narrowest infant seat is the babytrend, so we tried it. Still a no go with the Marathon outboard. He then recommended I get a different seat for the older child, or try putting her seat in the center and the infant seat outboard. He told me that the SK radian was the narrowest seat on the market, and has an 80 lb harness limit. He also told me that a baby could ride in some convertible seats if they fit right. I was expecting bad advice and was very suprised :)

Also some random carseat related news from this weekend. I had to loan out one of my marathons to my niece. When I asked my MIL how much she weighed, she said she didn't know, but that she was definitely over 40 lbs  Since she was riding in a safety first summit, I reminded MIL of the limit. She said she couldn't afford another seat for her (this is after a $60 breakfast at IHOP, and a $20 toy for each of the three girls) So I asked if she would like to borrow one of my seats until she could buy one. I reminded her of the rules for my carseats, and they left.

Cool. You should have pointed him our way, it sounds like he would fit in nicely here. And we always can use more testosterone around the boards.

I may next time I go in. He really suprised because he was a rather young looking guy. He was very popular at that BRU, he was the only person I heard paged the whole time I was there.

Oh wow, that's cool :). Heh, I know how he feels, I get paged all the time (well, besides the managers), and I'll show the carseats, check people out, and then see them in the parking lot when I fetch carts. :D

I WISH BRU would carry RN's in the store, they don't, it's amazing he knew about it.

I just want to say thanks for that perspective. I'm forever the "choice" person to be paged at work too and it drives me absolutely nuts. Next time I'm being driven nuts by feeling like nobody else ever gets paged I'll think of this.

Awesome that he gave you such wonderful advice. I work at BRU too so there are some of us out there giving good advice.

I was impressed with a young employee at my local BRU. A couple was shopping for a hbb for their 3-year-old. The employee told the parents that he was small for a booster and would not even meet the size requirements for some of them. As I recall, she even had the child sit in a booster or two on the bench to show the parents how he didn't fit. Since the parents were not open to getting harnessed seat, she made sure they bought a booster that did fit the little boy well. (The parents said he was harnessed in the primary vehicle, though.)

Unfortunately, that employee no longer works at Babies R Us.:(
