Honda Accord/ GN latch question...

I've recently purchased/ installed a GN for my 3 year-old son in our 2006 Accord. As you probably know, the GN has a max weight limit on the latch of 48 lbs. I called Honda to verify their weight limit on the latch and was informed that I should follow the carseat's manuf's limits. Have any of you found this same info? I thought that I found/ read info that contradicted what I heard over the phone? That the '06 Accord had a latch limit of 40 lbs? I suppose I should believe what I was told over the phone. But somehow I'm finding that difficult with my previous findings. Any others struggling with this?

It's 40 pounds. If you call back you'll probably get a different answer, whereas the people who put the LATCH manual together talk to the higher ups or engineers or something, not just the customer service reps, and they get the real dirt.

So it's 40 pounds for a Honda, Mercedes, Saab, and Acura, 39 pounds in a Porsche, and otherwise 48 pounds for the Nautilus.

Yeah, the customer service people have no idea. I have gotten 40 lbs, 48 lbs, and "follow the car seat's instructions" before--a few of them in the same conversation.

The people who compile the LATCH Manual do go direct with the engineers, as Wendy said. I talked with the engineer (or one of the engineers) they use as their resource, and he confirmed that it's 40 lbs.

That said...most parents have no idea that a LATCH Manual exists. Honda's manuals say nothing about weight limits. If a parent were to call Honda, they will likely be told something other than 40 lbs. (as you were).

So if Honda were really concerned about people following their supposed limits, you'd think they'd do a little more to make them known.

In addition, it is LATCH connectors on seats that are likely to fail before the anchors in cars. If Graco says their seat is good with LATCH until 48 lbs, it probably is.

That said...I have two Hondas and I follow the 40-lb limit.

Goodness. Then I must make the change ASAP to the seat-belt install. Thanks to all who posted. I KNEW that I shouldn't have trusted CS at Honda. Sad.
