Broken tether?

What can be done about this? It's from a Blvd that is
about three years old?

She took it on an airplane and checked it as luggage. Her guess is it happened then.. but she really has no clue b/c she didn't even know it was broken until I showed her. Also, the belt is super twisted in the adjuster but I can't imagine it is so bunched up that it broke the adjuster. Seems it would be stronger than that. I'm going to tell her to call Britax. She said the seat has not be in a crash.

The seat is out of warranty and may have been damaged (as opposed to defective): I don't think Britax is responsible for fixing it.

That was what I was thinking.... but wanted to see if I was out of line. Do you think bunching the strap in the adjuster and then yanking it to try to tighten it could do that?

If she checked it on an airplane, I'd tell her she's probably out of luck and IMO probably needs to replace the seat, if there was visible damage to it after being checked. :twocents:

We broke a LATCH connector like that once. It was twisted and I told Nathan to pull when I told him to so I could hold the belt flat while he pulled it out. Being midnight and tired and cranky from a flight he just gave it a hard yank (not trying to install it, just trying to straighten the belt) and it snapped off. I had to send the seat back to Britax. They fixed it on my dime.

I had a broken LATCH connector like Wendy-I have no clue how it got that way, but we never used LATCH because I don't have it in my car. We just used the seatbelt.
I did call Britax and they would fix it for $$. I said no way Jose. The seat was already 5 yrs old, so I really could care less.

If that's what happened when she checked it on a plane there's no way in heck I would use that seat again, fixable or not. This is why you should never check a car seat :(

Totally agreed. That's why I don't check my seats ever. If I convince her not to use this seat anymore then she is either going to put him back in an outgrown Roundabout that is in the 2nd car.... that was in a minor crash.... or she's going to put him straight into a booster. He's 4 years and likely under 40 lbs.

The tether is a replaceable part, but I would check the seat over VERY carefully for other damage.

So you think they can just order a new tether? I remember that my Blvd was part of the tether recall and they exchanged my seat for a new one b/c of that issue. I'm not wondering if this one was part of that.... but even more so... I thought the tether couldn't be replaced which was why they replaced my seat. It was a while ago now though so I might not remember the whole situation.

Urg. How about just discontinuing tether use? Not ideal, but sounds like it might be the least of the evils... :(

UGH
I really hate the 'lesser of evils' game.

I'm going to push for a Nauti for a Frontier instead if she can't get the tether replaced.
