Please help install Boulevard RF

Hi! :) Thanks so much for all of you who take the time to help keep this generation safe.

I have a Britax Boulevard that I need to install RR in the outboard seat of a Mazda Tribute for my 2 year old, who I think is around 25 lbs (maybe more, our scale is off).

With the LATCH, the connectors are under the base of the carseat instead of on the sides because the carseat is so wide. That just doesn't seem safe to me to have the weight of the carseat on the connectors, but the manual doesn't say anything about that. So, please tell me if this is safe or not. The LATCH does get a tighter install than the seatbelt.

With the car seatbelt, it gets folded at the corners of the carseat where it goes through. I tried with and without the lock-off things, and both ways, the belt is all bunched up near the hinges. It seems the only way to undo the bunching is to make the carseat go at a more upright angle. Should I try it with a rolled up towel?

I needed to drive and didn't feel comfortable with the RR install, so I tried FF with the latch and it was very secure, but since the straps had to be higher and they're attached to the headrest, I felt uncomfortable with the headrest being too high. Then my baby fell asleep and his head fell so far forward, I was worried. I suppose if I have to go FF, the reclined FF would be better if he falls asleep, but I read that it's better to be upright FF, right?

Thanks for reading all of this, I really appreciate it. Any advise i greatly appreciated. :)

Hi. It's normal for the LATCH connectors to be under the BV base when rf. You can wiggle them off to the side as you pull each belt tight--it takes finesse.

Does your vehicle seat recline? One thing you can do as you install with the seat belt is to recline the vehicle seat and maneuver the base either closer or further away until the seat belt rests flat in the lockoffs. You can use a tightly rolled towel or pool noodle to help with recline. Don't forget about the rf tether after you've got the installation you like. The tether should be snug but not tight.

Here is a picture of my boulevard installed, so you can see. I put the restraint on the seat, and the base is usually behind the latch hooks, instead of on them.

edited: also, it is more than fine for the seat to be less than 45* reclined. Anywhere from 30-45 is good for an older child, especially a 2 year old. It is even in the marathon manual;)

Re: Please help install Boulevard RF

Thanks again! I think I got it good this time! It's solid with the latch and with the base flat on the seat, so the connectors are on the sides and not under anymore.

Please tell me if the angle looks good, I tried to take these pics level to the ground:

Thank you all so much again! :D Lol on my typing RR instead of RF!

It looks good to me. As long as you have less than one inch of movement at the belt path then you're good. As for angle, it looks to be right at 45 degrees. You can put the seat more upright if you want to. The way to make it more upright is to push down where his feet go instead of where his bottom goes when tightening. Does that make since?

Re: Please help install Boulevard RF

 Looks good! Like Mommy2Marcus said, it's pretty reclined for a 2 yr old, but that's OK. My dd liked it at about that angle until she outgrew her MA at age 3. If you want it more upright, try pulling it away from the vehicle seat back before installing it by about an inch or so, then push down where his feet go as you pull the LATCH straps tight.
