Does anyone know anything about this harness thing?

Not safe.

I think they're much like Grandma Knows in that they've claimed testing and compliance that doesn't exist.

Fortunately, I've never seen one in actual use.

I just heard about it on the cruise message board I just joined - its seems like someone recomended it and now EVERYONE has one for their kids, even some under 12months!

I recomended the Ride Safer one

Wow! Thats crazy! I'm pretty sure that would do absolutely nothing in our car because unless the belt is pulled out a ways it won't lock at all! Unless all the seat belts lock during a crash or something but I don't think they do unless they are pulled out a little. We tried to lock the shoulder belts that aren't in use so dd wouldn't be able to mess with them since she's RFing but they won't lock because they aren't pulled out at all, we pulled it out alllllllll the way and then slowly let go of it and once it goes in to a certain point it dosn't stay locked. If that makes since....

Plus with that they could stand up! It dosn't tell you to lock the belt even does it?

I think it said something about a clip to lock the belt - not sure if they mean a locking clip or something else, it comes with it. Either way its scary that sOOO many people seem to be using it. I never even saq that one until just now.

Unfortunately, a locking clip is not designed to withstand crash forces. It's just a pre-positioner.

The seatbelt goes through a loop in the back (rather like pet harnesses I've seen) and is buckled- that should be plenty enough out for the ELR to be able to engage; they don't mention using the switchable retractor to lock the seatbelt, but do mention using a locking clip if the belt doesn't have a lightweight locking latchplate.

Oh yeah, nevermind! I wasn't thinking about how much is out already just because its buckled....nevermind, ignore me....

Still looks very unsafe to me though.

There is no upper torso restraint with that. Better than a lap-only belt, probably, because of the high placement on the back. I am highly suspicious of whether it's good enough to pass FMVSS testing. Actually, I read the instructions online, and there are some required statements that are missing, though there are common, traditional restraints that have been on the market for years whose instructions and stickers don't meet standards.

Yeah, I meant to add at the end of my post, that the whole thing looks awful- my reference to how it looks like a dog car harness was sort of meant to convey that, too.

hmmm maybe i should get one for my dog... lol.

I wish the Ride Safer oone had a lower weight limit - if Levi wasnt so tiny I'd get him one just for when were are traveling to weird countries.
