Car seat surgery not so successful

I neglected to consider how THICK Britax covers are. I can get the pin through them fine, but I can't buckle the pin because of the thickness!
I managed to, I think, get the seat in the van secure with three diaper pins. She can still reach it, but he probably (hopefully!) can't.
My car is going to be much more difficult. I'm going to figure out a way to have him rear facing again, but it's not going to be easy. I'm thinking I'll probably have to remove the cover at the bottom and leave it bunched up and just go under the cover to adjust it. I didn't do it last night and probably won't get around to it until Saturday, so he'll go for one more FF ride this afternoon and by the time he needs to be in my car again I should have figured it out. I can only do seats first thing in the morning, around 7 am, otherwise it is just too hot to do it. That's why I can't do it until Saturday.
