Ok, so I'll tell you the story and if you don't want to read it skip to the 3rd paragraph. I put DSS1 in the Radian last night and tightened the harness... Definitely tight enough. We get to the end of the street and he says, "I don't feel safe". I ask why (know that his normal seat that he is ALWAYS in is the Frontier in harness mode). Turns out he thinks he's loose. I am able to get a couple of tugs on it, it's already in ratchet mode and doesn't want to budge. I ask if he feels safe. He thinks he could be a little tighter and tries to pull his shoulders forward (they don't budge). So I give another tug... it wont even go a whole ratchet notch. So I explained he literally can't get any tighter. "Then I feel safe, we can go now!" Sigh...
So, we get down the freeway a ways... I'm still dwelling on our conversation when I remember, he's got like a couple months left in the Frontiers in harness mode, he's basically evening with the top slots, they're just BARELY above. The Radian is about the same but because you can go above the harness as long as his ears are still completely in the shell this seat will last a bit longer. Ok ok...
I remind him that he's going to out grow his harnesses in a few months and will be using his seats as boosters like he's done once before. I then asked him if he's ready for this. His reply is very hesitant. He says he doesn't like how much he can move in a seat belt and he wont be safe. He wont be tight enough... I tell him there's one more car seat that will fit him longer but we don't own it. I told him it doesn't look like a booster like his Frontiers. He concluded that he wanted to stay in the all over belt as long as possible (the 5-point harness).
I know this was very long but I wanted to be sure I explained his wants.
What would you do for your child? I've found a Regent for $159 at one point somewhere online... We don't really have the money but...
I can post a pic or two of him in the Radian... maybe he'll last longer in that then I thought. I also took a pic of him in the Frontier today too...
