Ma vs. Blvd room beside head- can someone measure too?

I don't really know how to explain this. I put my DS in DH's car in his MA the other day and I was like, wow it looks like he has about the same amount of room on either side of his head that he does in the BLVD. I was thinking that was just me trying to find a reason to hate the BLVD. So I just went and measured. And it is the same!!! I measured between the smallest, up against the back of the seat and the back of the headwings. I got about 8 1/2 inches.

Can anyone who happens to have both go measure their's so I know I'm not crazy?

I'm just wondering what the heck the point of the headwings is if the amount of side to side movement would be the same. Yes, I'm trying to find an actual reason to get rid of the BLVD but I would like it to be based on fact not my crazyness

The Wizard used to have lovely head wings, right up close against the child's head. My son never complained, but parents sure did

Even the older Boulevard (I have one) had wings that actually snugged nearer to the child's head, although no where near as nice as the Wizard.

The new 'wings'? They seem to be wings in name only. I don't see the point.

Because when the head slams backwards after a frontal crash, the wider the wings, the better they are at catching the head, versus having the base of your skull slam into the front edge of a headwing. Also, all the crash tests over at ADAC/OEAMTC show the bigger wings doing a fine job in side crashes, keeping the head from striking the door. Then again, the Marathon is probably almost as good... I never saw a reason to buy a BV when my MA was just fine ;)

Re the bolded: I thought it was the depth of the wings that came into play during those tests, not the width?

I can visualize the first part and that makes a great deal of sense.

All in all, I do prefer the wings over the unwinged Britax seats, because the shell is fairly shallow. The head is contained in a winged seat and not contained in the others.

Yeah, I have an older-style winged BV and it's MUCH closer to the head than the new wings. I honestly don't like the new wings at all!
