how wide are your 5 year old's shoulders? & related question

this is just a curiosity question. I'll measure DS when he gets home from school. I think he has really narrow shoulders, and I'm curious to see how he compares. I'm wondering if this might not be part of the reason our booster training attempts haven't gone too well.

my nearly 5 yo ds's are 12" with a fabric measuring tape.

his other measurements are 42.5" and around 37 lbs.

edit: he's more like 10" straight across. I sat him against the wall in the corner and marked how wide he was on the other wall.

DD#3 is 5.5, 43 inches, and 37 lbs. I just measured and she's somewhere between 10 and 11 inches for shoulder width. She wouldn't stop squirming so thats the best I could do.

Just measured Josef, he is 5.11yrs.

Overall-44.6"
Torso-18.5"
Shoulder- approx 13" This is the best I could get, it is not easy measuring shoulders with a little man begging to play the Wii :p
Weight-42lbs

This is exactly what my DS is--just reverse the pounds and inches :) So I guess he's not particularly small. Just squirmy. Thank you all for assuaging my curiosity :D

lol.
FWIW, dd's turbo fits her like a glove as long as she sits still, and the nauti and frontier in booster modes fit decently too, just not as wonderfully for the lap belt, so when we booster train, we use the turbo.

Thanks. I've had him in a Turbobooster, and it seems to fit well in the seat (he's got room on either side though, about an inch at least). What I was most amazed by today was his torso measurement--17"! Egads.

Try raising the headrest one click. When we were trying out boosters last spring it sometimes improved the shoulder fit to move it up a tiny bit (but still within acceptable range).

5y 0m

11 3/8" shoulder width
16" torso height

Roughly 46" overall height

Haven't had trouble with the Graco Turbobooster, the Nautilus as a booster, or the FPSV booster

A related question--when do kids start to get hip bones? LOL. No, really. DS is really slender and has a long, straight torso. The bodyguard booster positions the belt well because, well, it clamps down on it :p but nothing else does. He has room in the Nautilus and we're likely to get a Regent, but does ride in a booster occasionally in others' cars. I'm just curious when we might not have this belt-riding-up-on-lap issue.
