Our Safekids Coalition is having a booster seat project. We went out to the schools ahead of time and surveyed the cars dropping kids off. 25% were in the front seat. Education was provided to the parents and also to the kids in assemblies. The kids were given a small prize if they signed a pledge to ride in the back seat and use a booster til 4'9". We will return next month and see which school has the best improvement of kids in back and using boosters. That school will get a prize.

VERY cool! I wish they would do that kind of stuff around here, but NWA doesn't even have a coalition, the nearest is in Little Rock which is like 4-5 hours from here. *sigh* sorry for the vent! KUP how it goes!

Oh gosh, do we need something like that here too. I don't think any of the kids in my older dd's class are in boosters other than her and maybe one other. But, our law says they don't have to be. That being said, under 7 they have to be, and very very few are in boosters.

if you even say Booster or car seat at the elementary school here you get looked at like you have 4 heads .I really wish we had something like this. But who am I kidding I got chewed out last night for telling a family member that a 17 pound 6 month old can not ride forward facing.

I also get stopped and told "oh you know he is big enough for a booster now, you know that uses the car seat belt and he's certainly to big to be riding like a baby"

cool! We need that here, too. About half of DDs' 1st grade classmates were not riding in boosters last year, and I'm sorta dreading the first second grade field trip and seeing more boosterless kids (and worst of all, the boosterless boys who make fun of the kids who are still riding in boosters:mad:)
let us know how it goes!
