Britax & other brands - tethering

I reread my original post just now and realized it sounded pretty snippy! It wasn't supposed to. I'm also not about to go searching a bajillion threads to find the ones I'm thinking about, so, sorry if I irritated anyone.

I guess some of us assume that if you know exactly what you want, and don't want other opinions, you wouldn't be asking for advice. It is my opinion that for many children, an extra 5-10 pounds rear-facing (and more than that FFing) is far more beneficial than a RFing tether -- and if someone is asking for advice, that's mine.

I have never seen a case where a poster says they want a seat with a rear facing tether and they are not told that Britax offers it. If I'm wrong, please link me.

The reasons that people (myself included) point out that Britax isn't the only (or even the best) option:

The biggest: Britax STILL has a reputation of being 'the best' even if it hasn't been deserved for about four years. When people come on here 'knowing' that Britax is the only option, it needs to be corrected.

Also, more people lurk than post. They need to know that Britax is NOT the only game in town and furthermore has some serious drawbacks compared to other seats.

Thirdly, there are things that are more important than a rear facing tether. Rear facing itself, for example. So if someone wants to rear face for 'as long as possible' and then indicates they are buying a Britax seat, they're going to be rightfully corrected that Britax won't do that job.

If you're referring to the most recent thread, (which I'm fairly assuming you are since it's the only current example) the OP did not say that she wanted a seat with a rear facing tether.

I had trouble getting the straps tight on Elizabeth in her MA because she would prop her feet up. Fighting her to have her legs down when I tightened them was not worth the hassle to me and I moved her to a radian. In general I wouldn't want parents to be tempted to turn a child forward facing because their legs are cramped so I recommend the radian over the MA.
