So amid all my new car seat shopping I happened to think about my SIL son. He's 2 (3 @ end of year). He's a pretty big boy, around 36 pounds and almost as tall as my DS. I mentioned to MIL that SIL would probably need a new car seat soon.
Turns out SIL had gotten him a new one, a belt booster! I politely said "So I hear you got a new car seat." She told me why she needed a new one (old one was too short) and what she got, then she showed me. I said "Well, that's a nice seat, cushy and all." Then I told her how I had just got DS a new seat and how I wanted him harnessed longer because we are on the road a lot and it's much safer than just the seat belt booster. So I looked, asked you all, and got the Nautilus. I explained the weight ratings and how it makes a decent booster, you know the whole nine.
I thought for sure she'd shoot it down when I said how much it was. But I was surprised. She said they were on the road a lot too (which I knew) and that if harnessed is safer then maybe she should get one like mine. She said she didn't mind the price if it was what she needed and would last a long time. I then told her about where I got mine (diapers.com) and the discounts and such and she could actually get it for cheaper than I got mine!
Anyway, I was happy that I seemed to get through to her that harnessed is safer. I didn't try telling her about ERFing, I think he would have needed a much more expensive seat, or I would have pitched that to her.
Now, if only I can work out a way to be there when it's installed...
