How far ahead do you plan?

I know I buy and sell seats all the time, but I was planning to stop. I told dh that once we got a radian that we would be finished buying harnessed car seats. Now that things aren't quite working out with the setup I may be buying some more car seats to get that "perfect" or at least "acceptable" setup. The problem I face now is whether the "new" car seats will be the last or not. If I go with radians, I fear they will not sit ffing next to each other. That's a problem! Maybe I should get SLs so that my kids can rf even longer just because the seats will fit rfing, but not ffing. I envision my oldest child being 14 yo before passing the 5 step test. Next child will pass at the same time (not age). So, in 4-5 years we can put those two in the skinny seats. (Assuming the girls are still skinny.) In the meantime, my youngest ds will be 6-7 yo. It is a bit old for rfing. Maybe next year that multimac will come out. Or maybe all the skinny seats will be invented. Should I just go for what works now and have to buy and sell again when things change?

Yes, as long as what works now will work for a while (say, at least a year). I think that your situation - your kids and their ages, your specific vehicle, etc. - is tricky enough that you're just not going to find a solution that will work for everyone, for a long time.

I think your DH is just going have to suck it up, and understand that it's one of the prices of having six kids. ;)
