Weight of seat in LATCH/tether weight limit...

Should it be taken into account? For example, a 30lb Regent or Safeguard with a 45lb child in it = 75lbs. A 10lb Safeguard GO with a 45lb child in it = 55lbs. The first scenario is "legal" (term used loosely) but puts more strain on the LATCH/tether, whereas the second scenario is not "legal" but puts alot less total weight strain on the LATCH/tether...

I think I may have answered this in your other thread...the GO is rated to the full 60 pounds with LATCH precisely because it is so lightwight (basically a backless booster with a harnessed attached to it and a top tether). :)

Yes, I do remember your answer... ;) I wish they would put "40lbs with a 20lb child seat" or "60lbs total weight", etc. Car seats themselves have such a range of weights, ya know? So even if my Outback says 60lbs, I wonder if they were taking into account a 30lb Regent.

That's sort of why I feel that one should go by what Britax says--48 pounds--instead of what Subaru says, but who I am to say? I'm no vehicle engineer. :D I'm just a paranoid person who likes to err on the side of caution (most of the time).

But with the GO, I'd use it all the way to 60 pounds even in a 40 pound limit vehicle. It's just so darn lightweight, there's no seat shell to it.

Britax does say 48lbs unless the vehicle manufacturer says differently. Interesting, I finally got an answer from Subaru about their weight limit for the tether. The 1-800 customer svc tech yesterday had no idea what I was asking about. She said, "Well, let me open the manual." I replied, "If it were stated in the manual, then I wouldn't be calling you." She then referred me to NHTSC, but I told her she should now this stuff. And then I got angry that I knew more than she did about my question! She put me on hold, came back, and said, "40lbs". I replied, "How come all the research on the internet says 60lbs?" She finally took my number and called me back this morning, saying "60lbs with a seatbelt"... So what about the tether in conjunction with a lap/shoulder belt install?

Unfortunately customer service reps do not seem to be trained in much more than reading the manuals or taking you through an automated troubleshooting program or similar things.

The limits listed in the tech LATCH manual supposedly came from the vehicle manufacturers themselves, and I'm sure NOT from a random customer service rep.

It just sucks that people get such conflicting information from reps. :(
