Radian XTSL

Here are some pictures of the new Radian XTSL. The seat is the Eclipse (mesh) pattern. The mesh isn't rough but not soft like plush seats either. It is installed in a 2006 Toyota Sienna in the second row captain's chair using latch and tethered rear-facing. It wasn't the easiest install, but not horrible either.

The seat is for my 2 1/2 year-old (36 inches 33lbs). He is on the third slots from the bottom in the XTSL and has at least 5 inches of growing room to outgrow it by heighth (by comparison he had about 2 in his old Boulevard). My 5 year old (pictured below) is 45 inches tall with a 17 inch torso and has over an inch of growing room rear-facing in this seat (he just hit 45lbs and has thus outgrown it by weight).

My only complaint so far is the headwings don't go down far enough to be positioned as I would like for the 3rd slots. They are as far down as they will go in my pictures. The trade off, though is leg room. I can't believe the difference from our old Boulevard to the new Radian. There is plenty of leg room in this seat!

I was thinking the same thing about the upright angle. Did you have to use a lot of tricks, or did it just go in that way?

(I'm taking notes for our next car purchase)

We used the recommendations Defrost provided in her post on how to get a more upright Radian install. First we reclined the captain's chair that we were installing the carseat on. Then we pulled the carseat base away from the vehicle seat back. I then stood behind the Radian to apply force against the back of the Radian while my husband pushed down on the part of the carseat where the child's feet would go. He pushed hard enough to compress the carseat into the vehicle seat cushion. All the while we are taking turns pulling on the latch adjuster strap. After we got a pretty solid install we adjusted the captain's chair back to a more upright positioned. At this point it was solid at the belt path but really wobbly on the back (felt like it was going to tip forward into the vehicle seat it was installed on). We then secured the rear facing tether and this really stablilized the back of the seat. Whew! I'm exhausted just explaining it!

Really wasn't that bad though. :)
