Most classes run around $60, at least where I live. If you truly can't afford that, contact the course leader and ask if there are waivers available.

The price of the certification course from SafeKids went up to $75 on Oct. 1, and (at least around here) there is usually an additional local fee of at least $25 (and I've seen as high as $85)

Our local agency does offer a scholarship, but it only pays for the local fee. E-mail the instructors of the courses in your area-- it can't hurt to ask if their are scholarship funds available. :)

I see you found your answer- but I did want to post as a SK Coordinator that it's ALWAYS worth asking! We need volunteers, more than we need our local site fees. One of the chapters near us waived all fees (they paid the SK fees too) and provided breakfast and lunch, for people that committed to attend a set number of events. So those classes are out there! Especially for people who intend to keep volunteering.

My local chapter does that for people that are willing to volunteer and doing it for themselves (not work related - police, hospital, etc). I am friends with the local SK coordinated and she can sponsor people if you are willing to volunteer your time for 3 check events with in the next year.
