Rear facing seats

Hi,
I would like to know why car seats and booster seats are not supposed to be placed on seats that are rear facing? To me it sounds like an ideal situation: a 3-year-old sitting rear facing but with enough of legroom.
Thanks

Re: Rear facing seats

The most likely reason is that the manufacturers have not tested them this way. In principle, it does sound like installing a front-facing carseat into a rear-facing seat would be a good idea, since rearfacing has a significant safety advantage. The problem is that by doing that, your child becomes the crash test dummy:-(
