Question about my 5 yr old in a booster

My 5 yr old is a big girl for her age...55lbs and tall but her feet cannot touch the floor yet when sitting in the seat without her booster.
My friends and family are giving me a rough time about still using a booster...I keep trying to tell them about the dangers of children being injured without being properly restrained..
And no I am not listening to them either.
My question is at what height and weight is it safe to just buckle them in..I live in Michigan and have asked various police officers and nobody knows the answer.
Thanks and I love your site! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D">

Height and Weight are not the best guidelines...

The current rule of thumb for when to let a child use a seatbelt without a booster is 8 years old, unless they are already 4'9" tall.

Unfortunately, even that is not the best indicator. Kids of the same height vary in their proportions, and some 8 year olds are still too small to fit in some seatbelts without a booster. Plus, vehicles vary greatly in how their rear seatbelts fit small kids or adults.

So, fit is a better method:

If your vehicle seat has adequate head rests, your daughter could use a backless booster. These are less easily noticed from outside if you are concerned.

Thanks for the compliment, and please spread the word about us to your friends! Have a safe new year.
