Britax Galaxy Recline Position?

Hello! Britax has a new carseat, Galaxy, which fully reclines. Is it safe to use it in the fully reclined position rear-facing? I read here that the maximum recline is 45 degrees rear-facing for infants, but why would Britax make the Galaxy fully reclining if it wasn't safe to drive in that position? The Galaxy has a new 6-point harness with the extra point at the crotch; does this make it safe to use fully reclined? Our daughter is 4 months now and we would like to invest in a top of the line seat for long-term use, but are not sure which is best. The Galaxy's full recline appeals to us since we would be making long road trips, but if it is not safe then we would probably go with the Britax Advantage since it has an easy height adjuster. On the other hand, is it better to get the Galaxy simply for the 6-point harness; is it that much safer than the Advantage's 5-point? Thanks in advance for any suggestions or input!

Hi

No, the Galaxy shouldn't be used in the full recline position because that makes it very flat. The reason Britax did that was to make it easier to get the proper recline in vehicles that have a sloped back seat. The most recline any seat should have when installed in a vehicle is 45 degrees. So, if you use the Galaxy and can't get 45 degrees by using the reclining bar, just twist the dial until you get the recline you want.

The split crotch strap is used on Australia seats. I'm not sure what kind of testing they've done on it, but it supposedly spreads out crash forces in the crotch area, especially important for boys.

I would base a decision on which seat to get on which fits in your vehicle the best and which fits your daughter the best.

HTH!

In my vehicle, the super reclined position would create a 45 degree angle. My seats are fairly sloped, and I have to use 3 pool noodles to compensate with the Roundabout or my infant seat rear facing.
