I recently posted a question regarding whether to choose a Roundabout or Marathon for my 6 month old in a '97 camry and got loads of good responses. thank you!
Have decided to take the plunge and buy a Marathon for my exceptionally long daughter.
Now I am reading that rear facing convertibles should be tethered and I'm more confused.
Does anyone know how to do it in my car - a '97 camry?
If I take my seat the an inspector are they going to know how to do this?

thanks for you help - Katie

Since your daughter is so little did you check into the DC? You can get it right now for $219 at albee baby.

As far as teethering, find something bolted to the floor--typically the seat belt stem is a good one. Attach the D ring to that and then teether to it.

In general, the rear tether uses the D-ring/fabric strap that is attached or in the pocket with the tether. Wrap the strap around the bolted piece and pull the D- ring through (usually the bolted piece is the driver or passenger seat base that is closest to the CR). Caution - check that cords for electric seats and air bags ARE NOT caught in the loop. Then, clip the tether to the D-ring and tighten. Make sure to check the angle (45 degrees) when done, as sometimes tighten the tether pulls the seat out of the correct angle.

If you take it to a check-up, CPST should refer to the instruction booklet. They also should have access to the Safe Ride News "Tethering Child Restraints" book.

Only Britax and Sunshine Kids allow rear-facing tethering with their seats so some CPSTs might not be familiar with the method. If they read the manual though, they should be able to figure it out.

When your dd is forward-facing you'll need to have tether anchors installed in your Camry (they'll go in the back window deck, in pre-drilled holes), but when she's rear-facing you can use the D-ring and attach it to any bolted-down, non-moveable point forward of the seating position the carseat is installed in (usually underneath the front vehicle seat somewhere).
